Originally named Tippecanoe Lake, this peaceful body of water became Big Lake in 1923 - a fitting name for what once was the largest lake in Noble County. At its peak, Big Lake covered 320 to 480 acres, stretching almost one and a half miles long and over half a mile wide (Outdoor Indiana, 1950).
In the early 1900s, the lake area decreased in size due to dredging and draining near its outlet. With a large portion of residential development taking place in the 1950s and 1960s, the Big Lake area is now home to over 400 families. Learn more about the lake by visiting biglake.online/tidbits.
